Day 1: 19/3

Due to conflicting schedules between both our lead actress, Emily and crew, we decided to film in 2 parts. Layla was away for 2 weeks, and the following 2 weeks was Easter break so Emily was going to be returning home. We decided to film the scenes featuring just Emily before this break, and the scenes featuring other people afterwards. 2 of the biggest scenes in the film featured only Emily so we wanted to get these done first. On the first day we focussed on the baby nursery scenes, as well as the scene where she undresses in the bathroom to reveal her bruises. Layla and I spent the few days before creating storyboards and sorting out props. We filmed the indoor scenes in Layla’s house, set designing her spare room as a baby’s nursery. We bought a moses basket, blankets, baby bottles, dummies, a changing mat, and toys. We spent the morning set designing the nursery and positioning the lights and camera to work out the best angles. After this we went to get the rest of the equipment, as well as pick up our crew and actor. Kieran and Billy were recording the audio, Jess was helping out as a grip. We started on the Nursery first as we wanted the bathroom scene shot when it was dark outside. We struggled with lighting in the nursery because the room was so small, due to the size we had to keep the light outside of the room, shining in, but the door opened inwards so blocked off half of the room for lighting. We also had an issue with the curtains letting in too much light. We shot the scenes in this room but after reviewing them we decided we would re shoot them at a later date but this time shoot in the evening to stop natural light seeping in. After this scene we filmed the bathroom scene. We sent the rest of the crew home as we didn’t want Emily to feel uncomfortable getting undressed in front of a group of people. We decided to have Emily only taking her top off but keeping her bra on, and using different angles make it appear as if she was nude. Layla used an eyeshadow palette to achieve the bruises, using purple, blue, red and black to give the effect. We took multiple shots of Emily to get the right angles and best shots of the bruises. We took over the shoulder shots of her looking in the mirror and different close-ups of the bruises. We then got shots of her in the bath, using the ledge of the bath and her hair to cover her bra.

Day 2: 20/3

On this day, we spent the day at Burrator Reservoir filming the final scene where Evie runs away. We started by filming her running through the woods, testing the angles and lighting, as well as switching up the ground she was running on to see what looked best. This scene was particularly difficult to shoot as we had to run with Emily; trying to maintain the same speed while holding a camera and looking at the screen at the same time took many different takes. We used handheld stabilisers so we could run and keep it smooth, though it's still difficult to run with it at speed as you naturally move a lot when running and it's quite heavy when holding it for a while.
